Turtle Neck 2: Remastered
You missed it. So we brought it back.
Turtle Neck 2 is back for a limited run.
Originally released nearly two years ago, TN2 was built around a simple idea: put the MCU where the buffer is, clean up the wiring, and make filament management easier. Turtle Neck 2: Remastered (TN2R) keeps the same familiar footprint and modular design, but rebuilds the electronics around our new Compensator linear buffer.
The result is a smarter, more accurate filament buffer for filament changers, autoloaders, and tool changers.
Know exactly where your buffer is
TN2R replaces conventional buffer state sensing with the Compensator Hall sensor array.
Rather than relying on a single analog Hall sensor, Compensator exposes both raw Hall signals while also combining them into a true linear position signal with known endpoints. That means TN2R can know exactly where the buffer is throughout its travel, giving AFC accurate buffer position data and much better fault detection.
And because AFC supports Compensator natively, there's no calibration routine to deal with.
One MCU. Up to six Compensator buffers.
TN2R isn't limited to the Compensator built in.
Five additional ADC inputs allow the onboard Klipper MCU to support up to five additional Compensator buffers! Six total with minimal wiring. Those same inputs can also be used as conventional endstops for external filament sensors, remote hubs, and other accessories.
That makes TN2R particularly useful for tool changers with filament autoloaders, where several independently monitored buffers would otherwise mean a lot more wiring and hardware.
Shorter filament paths. Faster loading.
Like the original TN2, the Remastered version retains the modular inlet system, allowing a filament hub to be mounted directly at the buffer.
Putting the hub where the buffer is means a shorter filament path between the changer and extruder. The less distance the system has to cover during every load and unload.
USB or CAN. Your choice.
TN2R can operate as a typical Klipper USB MCU, or take advantage of optional 24V power and CAN bus for installations where running a single CAN connection makes more sense.
And yes, we gave it a NeoPixel port. Because of course we did.
The addressable RGB output can be configured to provide an immediate visual indication of buffer state or just make your filament system unnecessarily colorful. We support both approaches.
More than just a buffer
The accuracy and known endpoints of the Compensator system also make TN2R an excellent RAM sensor, while the additional ADC/endstop-capable inputs leave plenty of room for more complicated filament-management setups.
The board itself is completely new, but TN2R retains the footprint and mounting system of the original Turtle Neck 2. Only a couple of printed components have changed to accommodate the new CAN connection and larger Compensator magnet.
TN2R Features include:
- Compensator linear Hall sensor array for unrivaled accuracy
- Native AFC support with no sensor calibration required
- 5 additional ADC/endstop inputs
- Support for up to 6 Compensator buffers from one MCU
- USB connectivity
- Optional 24V power + CAN bus
- NeoPixel/RGB output with addressable LED support
- Modular inlet for buffer-mounted filament hubs
- Same basic footprint and mounting system as the original TN2
- Completely redesigned electronics
- Designed by NEI. and TES
Built for the people who missed it the first time.
TN2R isn't intended to turn Turtle Neck into a permanently stocked product again. This is a limited Remastered run for the people who wanted a TN2 and didn't get one the first time around.
You get the clean wiring that made the original useful, considerably more capable electronics, and the accuracy of the new Compensator HALL array, all in the familiar TN2 form factor.
Cleaner wiring. Unrivaled buffer accuracy. One MCU with room for six buffers.
And this time, maybe don't wait two years.
